CHOCOLATE CHUNK TRIO COOKIES
YIELD: ABOUT 5 1/2 DOZEN COOKIES
DIFFICULTY: EASY
PREPARATION: 30 MINUTES PLUS BAKING AND COOLING TIME
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 cup packed light brown sugar
2 large eggs, at room temperature
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
8 bars (1.5 ounces each) GODIVA Milk Chocolate, coarsely chopped
3 bars (1.5 ounces each) GODIVA Dark Chocolate, coarsely chopped
1 bar (1.5 ounces) GODIVA White Chocolate, coarsely chopped
3/4 cup English toffee bits
1/2 cup coarsely chopped pecans
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease two baking sheets.
2. Mix together flour, baking soda and salt.
3. Beat butter in mixing bowl until creamy, using electric mixer at medium speed. Add sugars and beat until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in vanilla.
4. Beat in flour in three additions, using low speed. Stir in chocolate chunks, toffee bits and pecans. The dough will be very stiff. Drop dough by slightly rounded tablespoonfuls about 1 1/2 inches apart onto prepared baking sheets.
5. Bake for 11 to 13 minutes or until no imprint remains when touched lightly with finger and edges are lightly browned. Cool cookies on baking sheets for 2 minutes. Remove from baking sheets and cool completely on wire racks. Store cookies in airtight container.
“Oh, god. I swear, you’re trying to make me look like a fool.”
“I promise I’m no’,” Harvey laughed.
He positioned her parallel to the water with one arm was hooked around her waist. The other hand splayed across her ribs, keeping her so she was halfway floating.
“Comfortable?”
“Not really.”
“Aye. I was hopin’ not.”
She looked back and he winked. Dirty bastard.
“Whit did I tell ye?”
“Kick and paddle.” Magda kicked her feet and flailed her arms, sure she looked like an idiot. Harvey moved so he was only holding her with the one hand that was now spread across her stomach, and then they were moving slowly through the water. Despite the cold water, the heat from his hand filled her stomach with a fluttery, nervous feeling.
“Yer swimmin’!” Harvey exclaimed.
“Wheesht, you.” He laughed. Magda kicked and paddled until her arms were tired. She sank a little deeper into the water, but kept going.
“Now ye are swimmin’,” Harvey called from a few feet away.
Magda immediately panicked. She stopped kicking her feet and her head dipped under the water, her nose barely above the surface.
“Kick yer feet Magda. I’m comin’.”
Magda did as he said and was able to tread water until he got to her. Harvey’s wide, long-fingered hands went around her waist and she latched onto him like a drowning cat.
“You let go,” she accused.
“Had tae if ye were gawn tae learn tae dae it on yer own.” His gaze roved her face before it locked on her eyes. “I’m sairy, Magda.”
Magda searched his eyes and found more truth there than she’d expected or wanted. He wasn’t just apologizing for letting go, he was letting her know how sorry he was for all the times he’d hurt her on the school bus. “Don’t,” she told him. “I don’t want to be friends.”
“Och, we’re gawn tae be family soon.” The smile dropped from his eyes, but not from his lips. “Ye can let go noo.”
“Huh?”
“Yer nails, wumman!”
“Oh. Sorry.”
“It’s alricht. I like it rough.”
With an exasperated sigh, Magda kneed him in the thigh. “I’m sorry I broke your nose twice-ish.”
“No’ the first time. I’ll be alricht. Noo, let go. Let’s give it another go.”
“Don’t let go this time.”
Harvey’s eyes were gentle, but his smile was dirty. “I’d ne’er.”
Of course he would.
