Being the best comes with consequences.
She was the best thief Interpol ever tracked. When a job went wrong she had to make a deal with them to retain her freedom. Given the choice between being locked in a cell, or complete a simple favor the answer should be obvious. But will that favor prove to be too big, even for the best?
He had been the best once. The right hand man of one of the most powerful women in the city, everyone respected and feared him. Then after a costly mistake he was left with an unpayable debt. He went from being the right hand to the collared dog. When he was tasked with creating ties that could subsequently wipe his debt, will he get out of the frying pan and into the fire? Or will freedom remain unattainable?

I watched silently from my corner when Fan rushed up the stairs and whispered into Jingjing’s ear. I didn’t see what she dropped into Jingjing’s hand until Jingjing held the tiny stone up to the light.
“Bring me my loupe, Micah,” she said without looking at me and studied the stone.
I didn’t grumble out loud, but internally while nodding. The stone had looked like a diamond. By the way it shined a really, really expensive diamond. Why had Fan given Jingjing a diamond?
When I came to the table with the loupe, Jingjing studied the stone. “Beautiful,” she murmured. “Excellent quality. Who is this from?” she asked, turning back to the nervously hovering Fan.
Fan gestured and all of us turned to the table in the corner across from the balcony. The blonde woman was eating, it seemed without regard, and seemed to be holding a conversation with Huan every time he came to check on her.
I’d never seen anyone–let alone a woman–finish the generous portion of da pan ji and rice before. Once she did, she smiled and gave Huan a thumbs up, and then to everyone’s amusement on the balcony she loosened her belt.
“Micah,” Jingjing didn’t even look at me. “Go collect our guest. I’d like to meet her.”
I nodded once more–I felt like a fucking bobble head around her–and crossed to the stairs to go down.
“And be polite,” she called after me as if she had to remind me.
