Are you a plotter or a pantser?

Plotter or pantser is too vague.

I’m not a plotter to the point of plotting out all the details.

But i’m not a pantser either, because I do outline a little.

Basically, I always know the basics of the story. The main character, and possibly a few supporting characters; and I know what the conflict is, and how it will end. I will jot down a very basic outline.

But the majority of the story comes to life as I’m writing. I don’t know everything that will happen, or everyone that will interact with my characters, or anything like that.

For example, in Enchanted Revenge. I knew it would be Lily’s story. I knew that her parents were going to die at the beginning of the book, and that their death would be her driving force, her motivation. I also knew that she would meet Alec, and that he would be her guide, and friend, and later something more.

And I knew she would go to the Empyrean, and seek out vengeance. And, I did know generally how it would end.

But that was it. What happened when Alec showed up at her house just came to fruition as I was writing her story. How they interacted, how they got to the Empyrean, and all the things she encountered there, Fenris, the abada, the entire hierarchy in the Empyrean, all of that was just created as I wrote it.

For people who are purely pantsers- I have no idea how the stories actually have a beginning, middle, and end. I don’t know how they close up the story if they don’t know how it will go, or where it’s heading, when they start writing.

And Plotters, who plot out the entire story before they even start writing- well, where’s the fun in that? I feel like I would never write a story if I already knew how every little thing would go.
